How Bad Do YOU Want It?

Another gem from my mentor for inspiration and mentality, Eric Thomas.

In this video,  he challenges us with two critical questions:

How bad do you want it?

What would your life look like if you didn’t count the cost?

You see, there comes a point in life where we have to ask ourselves tough questions like those Mr. Thomas poses.

As I said in my last post, you have to come to terms with who you are and where you are.

Is your commitment to your dream or calling just lip service?

Are you really giving God, your family, your company, and yourself YOUR best?

The fact is only YOU know the answer to this question.

And until you’re willing to give your all, you won’t achieve anything.

That’s how the math works in the world of dreams.

It’s all or nothing. There is no partial credit.  And there are no negotiations.

So imagine that starting today, you truly gave life your absolute best.

You acted when you really didn’t feel like it.

You pushed past discomfort.

You got up a little earlier.

You cut back on some T.V.

You let go of some bad habits.

You buried the words NO and CAN’T.

You turned up your intensity.

You truly put your whole self in.

You COMMITTED to do whatever it takes.

Well, don’t imagine any longer; today is the day for you to answer the questions.

Creating Luck

“I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.”  – Thomas Jefferson

Too often, we wait poised for our breakthrough to fall from the sky. We sincerely hope that our ticket has the winning number. We believe our circumstances are going to work themselves out. Listen, I am a huge believer in positive thinking, but too much thinking with too little doing will just leave you with a lot on your mind.

Here are three simple actions that will help you start moving to your goals TODAY!

1) Confess

Verbally speak out your situation. Speak out exactly where you are – the good, the bad, and the ugly. You can’t move on until you become brutally honest with where you are. The first step in changing is to truly identify how bad change is needed. Stir up enough frustration, anger, hunger, and desire to DO something about your situation.

2) Confront

Next, channel that energy into action! Do something today that gets your once inch, one foot, or hopefully one mile away from your current predicament. Don’t be consumed by how far you have to go; be focused on moving forward TODAY. Confront the current day, and you’ll find that consecutive days of positive action lead to positive change. It has been said that 21 days of consecutive activity (good or bad) creates a habit. Use that law to your favor. It doesn’t have to be a major change; but the fact that you have committed yourself in some capacity to change is a HUGE mental victory. And once you’ve tasted victory, your on your way to bigger wins!

3) Connect

The journey is not designed to travel alone. In order to accomplish major victories, you will need to align and associate with some other people. Identify people who are going where you want to go. Hang around people who are striving for the same things in life you are. You will need each other to go the distance. Having people around you that will keep you accountable, encourage you when your down, push you when you’re tired, and love you when you’re hurt is essential.

Confessing + Confronting + Connecting = Creating LUCK in your life!

Special Delivery

As I told you in the initial letter, my goal with this newsletter is to help you live BIG. We are going to play this game of life, and we’re going to play to win! One thing that we must commit to do daily is feed ourselves the fuel of champions. The reality is your car will never go anywhere without gas. And your body, which is much more important and powerful, won’t leave the station either without the right “gas.” And for you comedians reading this post, I’m not talking about “that” gas! 🙂

We must make the deliberate move to fuel our bodies with inspiration. Inspiration is the oxygen of excellence. It is the life source of champions. It is the bedrock of momentum. We must inspire ourselves DAILY to be our best! I will do my best to share with you some things that inspire me, but I would challenge you to seek out your own inspiration too. The key word is SEEK.

Be hungry for inspiration. Be thirsty for information that can help you move forward today. Be aggressive in the pursuit of your full potential. And one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay on course and on pace is to study those who have done, or are doing, what you aspire to do and be.

I’m reading about one such person right now. His name is Chad Hymas. Involved in a very unfortunate farming accident, Chad was crushed by a one ton bale of hay that left him paralyzed from the chest down. To be honest, I haven’t even finished the book, but I wanted to share one thought that already had me pondering:

“Every waking, breathing moment, we should live our message.”

Many would probably glide right over that sentence, but for some reason that statement stopped me. It rang in my ears. I felt something when my eyes scanned those words. Let me be more specific. I felt inspired!

Do YOU know that your life is supposed to be an inspiration to at least one person? Do YOU realize that you were designed with an incredible story that should be told? Do you realize that YOU were created with a message that is supposed to be delivered?

Sadly, many of us have meandered through life as if we’re a mouse. We’ve tip-toed through our days trying not to make noise. We have turned the volume down our lives so no one can hear the message that we carry. Some of us have tried to change the playlist, replacing the message of hope, encouragement, and love that you were born with to a message of doubt, bitterness, and hatred of self and others. Many of us have accepted the wrong messages of others that tell us that we don’t matter, we’re nothing special, we’re stupid, we’re worthless, yada, yada, yada.

I challenge YOU to listen to the message that is playing in your heart and mind TODAY. Is it a message of inspiration? Or is it a message of excuses, complaining, and cynicism? If I were to write a book about your life up to this point, what message what I take away from your story? Only YOU know the answer to that.

Final thought: If the message would not inspire me or others, CHANGE. You were designed to INSPIRE. Yes, YOU! If the message is inspiration, turn up the volume! Don’t be bashful. Someone needs to hear your message, and they might not be able to hear your whisper.

Don’t just play with life. Play to win!

Win the day!

Listen Up!

The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. —Proverbs 10:8

I know this sounds kind of obvious, but I’ll say it anyway. You can’t talk and listen at the same time. The reality is we miss critical information many times because of our own noise. And I truly believe that our success will be in direct proportion to our listening skills.

Your value does not lie in what you put out; it lies in what you pick up. You simply must learn to fine tune your ears to pick up the wealth of information coming your way all the time, so you don’t miss the diamonds of information. Think about it, Oprah Winfrey is not a billionaire because of her ability to speak. She’s wealthy largely due to her ability to listen. Most of her episode she’s speaking less than 30% of the time.

Zig Ziglar, one of the most highly respected motivational speakers of all time, made a profound statement that I committed to memory:

You can have everything in life you want, if you would just help enough other people get what they want.

How do you know what people want? You ask more questions and make less statements. You get laser focused on what people are saying both verbally and non-verbally. I challenge you TODAY to intentionally speak less and listen more. I challenge you to ask more questions today and focus intently on the answers you receive. Don’t think about your response while the person is answering your questions. Give your full concentration and attention to their response.

Does it seem like I’m going overboard on this topic? I hope I am! This is a VERY important skill if you truly want to WIN in every area of your life. Many of the answers to your challenges, frustrations, hang ups, set backs, and difficulties have already been given. You just weren’t listening. But that changes today, right?

At the end of the day, shoot me a note, leave me a comment on Facebook, or tweet me about something you picked up on in a conversation because you listened with a keen ear. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
