Sleep?

“Sleep is the new broke.” – Eric Thomas

I enjoyed watching this video that marries the brands and messages of two very impressive men, David Shands and Eric Thomas. They share a passion for embracing, respecting, and protecting one’s personal brand by developing the habits of greatness. The words of David Shands are especially poignant for anyone trying to do entrepreneurship the right way. While money should be a focus, it should not be the primary focus. Know your cause, know your “why,” know your mission, know your message. Most important, live out your cause, your why, your mission, and your message. Now get up and go make it happen!

The Fire Inside

I have been listening to the Blueprint 2 Success Motivational Mixtape by Eric Thomas for the last two weeks. It is power packed from beginning to end! The album grabs you right out of the starting gate with my favorite soundbite:

You may be smarter. Your family might come from privilege. Your daddy may own the company, but you will not outwork me!

As the quote echoes out, the track in the backgrounds moves to the forefront. I have never heard the song before, but I did recognize the voice immediately — Black Thought of the legendary hip-hop group, The Roots. He is laser focused on the verse, and he sounds like a man on mission as reflects on the journey ahead:  the journey from good to great. Add a masterfully sung chorus that seems to pour gas on one’s internal pilot light, and you have spontaneous combustion. What a perfect pick to kick off to the project. The challenge is on the table; never let the flame expire. Instead, turn the flame into an unquenchable blaze. Greatness is unstoppable. Greatness is timeless. Greatness is magnetic.  Greatness consumes average.

The Fire by The Roots, featuring John Legend

[John Legend]
Ohhhh, the fire, the fire
Ohhhh, the fire, the fire

[Chorus: John Legend]
There’s something in your heart
and it’s in your eyes
It’s the fire, inside you
Let it burn
You don’t say good luck
You say don’t give up
It’s the fire, inside you
Let it burn

[Black Thought]
Yeah, and if I’m ever at the crossroads
and start feeling mixed signals like Morse code
My soul start to grow colder than the North Pole
I try to focus on the hole of where the torch goes
In the tradition of these legendary sports pros
As far as I can see, I’ve made it to the threshold
Lord knows I’ve waited for this a lifetime
And I’m an icon when I let my light shine
Shine bright as an example of a champion
Taking the advantage, never copping out or cancelling
Burn like a chariot, learn how to carry it
Maverick, always above and beyond average
Fuel to the flame that I train with and travel with
Something in my eyes say I’m so close to having the prize
I realise I’m supposed to reach for the skies
Never let somebody try to tell you otherwise
